Classical Figure Sculpture

 Classical Figure Sculpture

Level: Beginner to Advanced

Join us for a fun, fast-paced, anatomy based introduction to figure sculpture.  No experience is needed--just a willingness to learn the basics of the academic tradition.  We sculpt from a live model each week as we learn how to see the body as a 3-dimensional architectural form.

Students learn how to group, interpret and accurately bones and muscles as geometric forms that have a definite direction in space and are planar.

Students also learn how to construct their own armatures.  We work in water-based clay and students learn how to hollow out their completed sculpture to prepare for firing and glazing.  Students gain experience in sculpting maquettes (small, full-figure, completed quickly), full-size standing and seated poses (at 1/4 life-size) and a portrait bust (3/4 life-size).

Thank you so much for the beautiful portrait of our daughter. We know that it took many hours and great attention to the tiniest of detail. The way that you photographed her, your assistance in selecting the clothing, every step you took such pride of workmanship. We will treasure it for many years to come!

Lisa is a truly amazing artist who shares her gifts and talents with others with plenty of creativity, authenticity, wisdom, warmth and fun!
